This feature allows the language of the telephone display and applications to be changed. Languages available vary by set type; see Language Change for more information.
When a new language is selected from an attendant or the PMS, it overwrites the current language for all telephones in the guest room or suite. Softkeys and display messages appear in the new language.
When a new language is selected from a telephone, only that telephone is modified. Other members of the suite (if any) retain the original language.
The telephone display language (and all other Guest Services functions) cannot be set from a 5540 IP Console in a Clustered Hospitality environment.
Support for this feature varies by device:
IP devices that support ASCII only are limited to the three active languages.
IP devices that support Unicode can use all available languages except Chinese.
IP devices that support Unicode and simplified Chinese can use all available languages including Chinese.
Devices that manage their own language settings are not impacted by this feature.
NOTES
If a device is limited to three active languages and the selected language is inactive on the system, a warning software log is generated and the device displays the default language. If the device does not support the default language, English is displayed instead.
In all circumstances, if the device does not support the selected language, English is displayed instead.
Language selection only applies to the device’s prompts and applications. It has no impact on telephone directory (teldir) information displayed during a call.
This feature does not require programming.
5540 IP Console
To change the language for all telephones in a guest room:
Enter Guest service mode.
Type the room extension number.
Press the ENTER softkey.
Press the MORE softkey.
Press the LANGUAGE softkey repeatedly until the desired language is displayed.
NOTE: If the selected language is unavailable or cannot be programmed on the device, an error message displays.
Press the SET softkey to save the change.
Press the EXIT softkey.
To change the language for all telephones in a guest room:
Select Guest Service.
Use the computer keyboard to type the room number in the Room Number box (not necessary if you are already on a call to the room).
Select Search.
Select the desired language from the Language list.
Select Save to save the changes.
